Casinos Implement Due to Covid-19

Social distancing measures and restrictions implemented by casino properties amidst the ongoing pandemic

Because of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, most countries around the world have imposed restrictions and social distancing measures that apply across different settings. As casinos value the health and safety of visitors, they also have strict protocols and measures in place.

Guidelines and Tips for Staff and Visitors

Staff and visitors are encouraged to use alcohol-based sanitizers and wash their hands regularly using water and soap. Hand sanitation stations that are located throughout casino properties help ensure good level of hygiene. Dispensers are made available at elevator landings, restaurant entrances, the casino floor, hotel lobby, reception areas, and entrances.

Upon entering the casino, visitors are required to follow social distancing measures such as keeping distance and wearing of face masks. They also undergo mandatory temperature check, and customers who have a fever or any cold symptoms are advised to stay home. Some properties are also equipped with temperature-checking touchless kiosks that screen staff and visitors entering the facility. Once temperature is confirmed, customers are offered wellness stickers to be carried while at the casinos.

Measures in Place for Different Types of Games

Casinos are increasingly placing physical barriers between slot machines to ensure that social distancing measures are properly observed. For those who choose to bet on table games, many casinos have reduced seating and physical barriers. Some facilities such as bingo halls are closed until further notice. In other areas such as poker rooms, smoking and food are not permitted. Supervisors and managers are tasked with reminding visitors to observe social distancing and avoid gathering in groups.

Measures at Resorts

Signage and markers for line quieting are also utilized throughout casino properties, including places like employee services, retail and food and beverage outlets, player services, the cashier cage, transportation services, and the hotel lobby.

Physical barriers in the form of clear plastic barriers and protective glass are installed in areas when social distancing protocols are difficult to observe.

Resorts have also increased the frequency of sanitizing and cleaning in all employee and public-use facilities. Amenities and equipment that are subject to frequent cleaning include:

  • Common seating areas
  • Retail and dining surfaces
  • Casino cage
  • Kiosks
  • ATMs
  • Bathrooms
  • Door handles
  • Handrails
  • Elevators and escalators
  • Front desk check-in counter
  • Tables and countertops
  • Table games
  • Slot machines

Industry sanitizing and cleaning protocols are also observed when cleaning high-touch surfaces such as nightstands, water faucet handles, television remote controls, and light switches.

Many casinos are currently not offering free transportation to protect visitors’ safety and health. Some are running guest shuttles on a limited schedule but reservation is required. Before boarding, all guests undergo temperature check and are asked to wear a face mask while riding and boarding the shuttle. Shuttles are subject to disinfection after, between, and before trips and are operating at a reduced capacity.
